ARC Laboratory Achieves Significant Accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP)

by Grainne

ARC Laboratory is proud to announce that it has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) following a recent on-site inspection conducted by CAP inspectors.

CAP accreditation is recognised globally as a benchmark of laboratory quality and operational excellence. ARC Laboratory now joins more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide – becoming only the 4th laboratory on the island of Ireland to achieve CAP accreditation and one of 14 in the UK to hold this recognition.

The inspection team, comprising practicing pathology and laboratory medicine professionals, assessed our laboratory against CAP’s rigorous and robust standards. CAP accreditation is internationally recognised as a benchmark of quality, helping laboratories mitigate risk, strengthen operational excellence, and ultimately contribute to improved patient outcomes.

“ARC Laboratory demonstrates leadership, innovation, and a passionate commitment to standards of excellence while providing the highest quality services, ultimately for patients,” said Richard M. Scanlan, MD, FCAP, Chair of the CAP’s Council on Accreditation. “The CAP congratulates ARC Laboratory on its recent CAP Accreditation.”

Dr. David Ribeiro, ARC Laboratory Director

During the accreditation process, inspectors conducted a comprehensive review of laboratory records, quality control procedures, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety programmes, and overall management systems. These assessments ensure alignment with current best practice and the highest standards of laboratory medicine.

Dr David Ribeiro, Laboratory Director at ARC, commented: “Achieving CAP accreditation is a significant milestone for ARC Laboratory. It reflects the strength of our quality systems, the expertise of our team, and our commitment to delivering accurate, reliable diagnostic services that our pharmaceutical and diagnostic partners, and patients, can trust. This is a major achievement for our entire laboratory team, providing external endorsement and a further demonstration of our commitment to quality and patient care.”

With more than 23,000 laboratory participants globally, the College of American Pathologists also provides proficiency testing/external quality assessment (PT/EQA) programmes, quality improvement tools, and evidence-based guidelines. Built on a foundation of pathologist expertise, CAP partners with laboratories worldwide to elevate diagnostic quality, strengthen compliance frameworks, and drive continuous improvement in patient care.
